Conducting Masterclass for Youth

 

In order to discover and nurture the next generation of conductors, the KBS Symphony Orchestra would like to invite you to our conducting masterclass. 

We are looking for talented and passionate young musicians to apply for this special program.

1. Project description

- The program will provide practical conducting experience and instruction for one year from the KBS Symphony Orchestra Music Director

 

2. Eligibility

- Who is born in and after 2004

- Who is interested in orchestra conducting

- Who can play an instrument at a high level

- Who is willing to learn the 2nd instrument

- Who can communicate in English

 

3. Core Curriculum

- Piano sessions, ensemble classes, and individual/group lessons from Maestro Pietari Inkinen, Music Director of the KBS Symphony Orchestra

- Mentoring and teaching the second instrument from the musicians of the KBS Symphony Orchestra

- Opportunity to conduct KBS Symphony Orchestra musicians in small ensemble and chamber orchestra settings

- Attending rehearsals, general rehearsals, and concerts of the KBS Symphony Orchestra

 

4. Application

- Application Deadline: August 22,2022 (Mon) 17:00 (KST)

- Requirements: Online Application Form(Click) and 2 videos

- Video 1: Performing Instrumental music / Repertoire by Applicants’ own choice, limit of 10 minutes

- Video 2: Conducting L. v. Beethoven’s Symphony No.5 in c minor - 1st movement only

   ※ Please refer to the attached Guideline for details of the video submission

 

5. Selection Process Guidelines

 

Applying → Round 1 (Video Audition) → Round 2 (Live Audition and interview) → Announcement of successful candidates

 

Process	Description
Application	▷ Deadline : August 22, 2022 (Mon) 17:00(KST) ▷ Online application(Click) only accepted    ※ Your application form should contain the YouTube URL of each video    ※ Applications cannot be submitted after the application deadline
Round 1 (Video Audition)	▷ The first round will consist of the video auditions submitted along with the application form ▷ Announcement of first successful candidates: September 8, 2022 (Thu)
Round 2 (Live Audition and Interview)	▷ The second round will be held on October 1, 2022 (Sat)    ※ The repertoire and detailed schedule for the 2nd round will be announced only to        those who have passed the 1st round    ※ Audition and interview must be conducted in English ▷ Announcement of successful candidates: October 10, 2022 (Mon)
Masterclass period	From October 2022 to September 2023 (1 year)

 

 

6. Notice

- Duplicate applications are strictly prohibited and application forms cannot be modified after submission

- The KBS Symphony Orchestra is under no obligation to select any applicants if satisfactory candidates cannot be identified

- In case there is false informationon the application form or manipulation of the submitted video, the applicant will be disqualified and subsequent participation in projects of the KBS Symphony Orchestra will be restricted
