The surreal story of Petrushka takes place in a festive Russian market place, where a puppet springs to life, becomes jilted, and commits a murder. Folk tunes, robust rhythm, primitive sounds, and sumptuous orchestration gush throughout the work. Don¡¯t forget to listen for the piano, which is written to be part of the orchestra.
